At Janetpets, we manually review the majority of adverts submitted to our platform, supported by a variety of tools and safeguards (see details below). While we strive to implement some of the strictest safety measures in the UK, we are not an enforcement body and cannot physically inspect the homes of advertisers. It is ultimately up to buyers to conduct thorough checks on sellers before making any adoption or purchase decisions. To support potential pet owners, we provide detailed checklists aimed at ensuring the pet’s wellbeing and a smooth rehoming process, along with advice on buyer responsibilities. We also value the extra caution shown by our users, who frequently report concerns about listings or share feedback after visiting sellers with unsatisfactory experiences. If you notice any issues, no matter how minor, please report them!
Verification Checks
Janetpets includes several verification features to enhance security on the platform. Licensed breeders are required to provide a copy of their license, which is displayed publicly where applicable. Additionally, all sellers must verify their UK-based phone numbers, providing an extra layer of security alongside Janetpets’ internal tools and manual moderation.
Animal Welfare, Regulations, and Advice
Janetpets has a zero-tolerance policy toward unethical breeding practices, including puppy farming. Adverts submitted for posting on Janetpets undergo automated reviews, with many being manually checked, ensuring compliance with our strict animal welfare guidelines. As a result, approximately 40% of adverts are rejected before going live. Unacceptable listings include pets advertised as gifts, puppies without a photo of their mother, pets imported for sale, sellers offering delivery services, and listings for “designer” pets, among other violations.
Community Guidelines
Janetpets provides an extensive knowledge base of over 6,000 articles written by veterinarians, reputable breeders, and experts, offering guidance on pet health, care, and behavior. The platform also features detailed breed profiles and comprehensive rehoming checklists for each type of pet. Janetpets’ Trust & Safety portal offers further support to the community.
Our dedicated Trust & Safety team monitors reports 24/7, using an in-platform “report” function. Every report is thoroughly investigated, and Janetpets collaborates with local councils and organizations like the RSPCA to address concerns. We adhere to the Animal Welfare Act, Lucy’s Law, and PAAG’s minimum standards and actively campaign for the government to ban the unethical import of puppies and prevent the mistreatment of animals through illegal breeding practices.
We take extensive measures to prevent puppy farmers from using our platform. We closely monitor the number of adverts each seller is allowed to post, and we verify local authority breeder licenses to ensure they are legitimate. However, having a valid council license does not automatically grant a breeder access to our services. If we suspect that a breeder is operating on a large commercial scale or not providing proper care for their dogs, we will block their access to our site.
We also collaborate with local authorities and animal welfare organizations to prevent known puppy farmers from misusing our platform. Janetpets was created for responsible pet owners, hobby breeders, and rescue centers, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards anyone attempting to exploit our community.
We adhere to a set of strict standards when approving or rejecting adverts, which you can review by clicking here. Additionally, we follow the minimum guidelines set by the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG)
